Summary

Abies sibirica, commonly known as Siberian Fir, is an evergreen coniferous tree native to the taiga of Siberia, the Russian Far East, and northern Mongolia. It typically grows 30–35 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 0.5–1 meter at breast height and features a symmetrical, conical crown. The needles are dark green, and the tree is known for its beautiful, cylindrical cones that change from green to brown as they mature. Siberian Fir thrives in cold climates, displaying remarkable frost resistance and hardiness, withstanding temperatures as low as −50 °C.

Siberian Fir is valued for its dense, evergreen foliage and is often used in large gardens, parks, and as a Christmas tree. Its wood is also utilized in the construction and paper industries. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to partial shade and requires medium amounts of water with well-drained soil. While it is shade-tolerant, optimal growth is achieved in open spaces. Gardeners should be aware that although it is generally pest-resistant, it can suffer from fir woolly adelgid infestation.CC BY-SA 4.0
