Estimated Native Range
Summary
Acacia pravissima, commonly known as Wedge-Leaf Wattle, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the slopes and plains of southeastern Australia, particularly in New South Wales and Victoria. It typically grows to a height of 0.5 to 3 meters (1 ft 8 in to 9 ft 10 in), but under ideal conditions, it can reach up to 8 meters (26 ft) with a spread of 2 to 6 meters (6.5 to 20 ft). The plant is characterized by its unique, triangular (wedge-shaped) phyllodes (leaf-like structures) and its slender, spreading branches that create an open, airy canopy. Acacia pravissima produces an abundance of small, ball-shaped yellow flowers in the spring and winter, which are highly ornamental and attract pollinators.
Wedge-Leaf Wattle is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to adapt to a variety of soil types, although it prefers well-drained soils. It is a low-maintenance plant that requires minimal water once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping and gardens with limited water resources. The bright yellow flowers add a splash of color to the landscape during the cooler months when few other plants are in bloom. This species is often used in ornamental plantings, as a screen or hedge, and for soil stabilization on slopes. It can tolerate full sun and is relatively free from serious pests and diseases, although it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered.CC BY-SA 4.0
