Summary
Acaena pinnatifida, commonly known as Argentinian Biddy-Biddy, is an evergreen perennial herb native to South America and California. It typically grows to a height of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) and a width of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters). This ground-hugging plant forms a dense mat of fern-like, pinnate leaves, which are green in color. The flowers, which appear in spring and summer, are small, inconspicuous, and range from red to purple, followed by spiky burrs that can be a nuisance if they attach to clothing or animal fur.
Argentinian Biddy-Biddy is valued for its low-growing habit and textural foliage, making it an excellent choice for ground cover, rock gardens, and edging in cultivation. It is drought-tolerant once established, requiring low amounts of water, and can thrive in a variety of soil types with medium drainage.
