Actinidia chinensis, commonly known as Golden Kiwifruit, is a deciduous perennial vine native to the Yangtze River Valley and other regions of China, where it thrives in the forest margins, clearings, and along riverbanks. It can grow vigorously, reaching lengths of up to 30 feet (9.1 meters) in all directions, and is characterized by its twining stems and heart-shaped leaves. The fruit is notable for its smooth, bronze skin with a beak shape at the stem attachment, and some cultivars feature a distinctive red ’iris’ around the center with yellow flesh. Fruit color can range from green to lime green or gold, depending on the variety. The vine produces fragrant flowers that are cream, yellow, green, and white in color during the spring and summer, which are moderately showy and attract pollinators.

Golden Kiwifruit is valued for its edible fruit, which is rich in vitamin C and has a sweet-tart flavor. It is often grown on sturdy supports such as trellises or pergolas in home gardens, orchards, and commercial plantations. Due to its size, it requires regular pruning to manage growth and improve fruit production. In cultivation, it prefers full sun but can tolerate part shade, and it requires well-drained soil with consistent moisture.
