Summary
The vine is celebrated for its striking foliage, which features a unique variegation of green leaves splashed with pink and white, often more pronounced on the upper portion of the plant. The plant produces small, fragrant, greenish-white flowers in late spring to early summer, which are followed by edible, kiwifruit-like berries that are small in size (2-5 g or 0.07-0.18 ounces) but can be a delightful addition to the garden. These ornamental qualities, along with its resilience in cold climates, have earned Actinidia kolomikta the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. It is often used in gardens for vertical interest or as a ground cover, and it can also be grown as a houseplant. For optimal growth, it requires full sun to part shade, consistent medium moisture, and well-drained soil. While it is generally low-maintenance, it may require support structures to climb effectively, and protection from late frosts is advisable.CC BY-SA 4.0
