Estimated Native Range
Summary
Agastache parvifolia, commonly known as small-leaf giant hyssop, is a perennial herb native to the chaparral and woodlands of northern California and southern Oregon. It typically grows to a height of 2 to 4 feet (0.6 to 1.2 meters) and spreads 1 to 3 feet (0.3 to 0.9 meters). The plant has an erect growth habit with triangular, serrated leaves on petioles, which are characteristically less than 2 inches long. The inflorescence is a spike at the top of the stem, featuring flowers with pink-tipped green sepals and tubular pink corollas that bloom in late summer to early fall. The flowers are modestly showy and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Small-leaf giant hyssop is valued for its aromatic foliage and flowers, which can be used in herbal teas and for their potential medicinal properties. It is suitable for native plant gardens, pollinator gardens, and as a border planting. This hyssop prefers well-drained soils, tolerates drought once established, and thrives in full sun to part shade. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. It is not known to have aggressive roots or to be particularly prone to diseases.CC BY-SA 4.0
