Summary

Agastache wrightii, commonly known as Sonoran Giant Hyssop, is a deciduous perennial herb or subshrub native to the desert grasslands and oak woodlands of the Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico. It typically grows to a height and width of 2-4 feet (0.6-1.2 meters). Sonoran Giant Hyssop has a bushy form with erect, branched stems. Its foliage is aromatic, and it produces showy spikes of tubular flowers that are primarily blue to purple, blooming in the summer months and attracting pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies.

This plant is valued for its drought tolerance and the long-lasting, vibrant color it adds to gardens, especially in xeriscaping. It is used in border plantings, herb gardens, and as a component of pollinator-friendly landscapes. Sonoran Giant Hyssop thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils. While it tolerates medium amounts of water, it is also quite drought-resistant once established. There are no major disease problems, but it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. It is not known for being invasive and is generally easy to maintain.CC BY-SA 4.0
