Estimated Native Range
Summary
Agave chrysantha, commonly known as Goldenflower Century Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to the arid highlands and mountainous regions of Arizona. It typically grows to a height of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) and a width of 3-5 feet (0.9-1.5 meters). This plant is characterized by its rosette of spiny, gray-green leaves and its tall flower stalks that can reach up to 15 feet (4.5 meters), bearing clusters of bright yellow flowers in the spring. The flowers are particularly showy and attract pollinators such as hummingbirds and bees.
Goldenflower Century Plant is valued for its drought tolerance and striking architectural form, making it a popular choice for xeriscaping, rock gardens, and as a focal point in water-wise landscapes. It thrives in full sun and requires very little water once established, making it an ideal plant for gardeners seeking low-maintenance options. While it is generally free of serious pests and diseases, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered. After flowering, which may take many years, the individual rosette dies, but the plant often produces offsets or "pups" that can be used for propagation.CC BY-SA 4.0
