Estimated Native Range
Summary
Agave schidigera, commonly known as Schidigera agave or Queen of White Threadleaf Agave, is a slow-growing, evergreen succulent native to the semi-desert regions and rocky hillsides of northeastern Mexico. It typically reaches up to 2 feet in height and width, featuring rosettes of narrow, dark green leaves with white fibrous margins that curl interestingly as they age, giving the plant a distinctive appearance. The leaves are also adorned with white, ornamental filaments that add to its decorative appeal. Agave schidigera blooms once in its lifetime, producing a tall flower spike with yellowish-green flowers, although flowering is rare in cultivation.
This agave is valued for its striking form and texture, making it a focal point in xeriscapes, rock gardens, and as a container specimen. It is highly drought-tolerant, requiring minimal water once established, and thrives in full sun with excellent drainage. It is generally low-maintenance, but protection from frost is necessary as it is not cold-hardy. While it does not have significant problems with pests or diseases, overwatering can lead to root rot. Agave schidigera is not known to be invasive and does not have aggressive roots, making it a safe choice for most garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
