Summary
Agave striata, commonly known as Narrow Leaf Century Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to the arid and semi-arid regions of Northeastern Mexico, particularly thriving in rocky outcrops and slopes. It typically grows to a height of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) and a width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters). This plant forms dense rosettes of narrow, needle-like leaves that can add a striking architectural element to gardens. The Narrow Leaf Century Plant blooms infrequently, but when it does, it produces tall, slender spikes of yellow and purple flowers in the late spring to early summer, which are quite showy and attract pollinators.
The Narrow Leaf Century Plant is valued for its drought tolerance and low maintenance requirements, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and rock gardens. It is also used as an accent or specimen plant in succulent collections. In cultivation, it requires full sun to part shade and very little water, thriving in well-drained soils. While it is generally disease-free, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered. Due to its sharp leaves, it should be placed carefully to avoid injury to passersby.CC BY-SA 4.0
