Summary

Agrimonia gryposepala, commonly known as Tall Hairy Agrimony, is a deciduous perennial herb native to a variety of habitats including open woodlands, woodland edges, thickets, and meadows across the United States, particularly in the Northeastern states, as well as Mexico. This member of the rose family (Rosaceae) can reach 1–5 ft (about 30–150 cm) in height and is characterized by its hairy stems and pinnate leaves. From mid-summer to early fall, it produces spikes of small, yellow, 5-parted flowers that are quite showy and emit a spicy scent when the plant is bruised.

Tall Hairy Agrimony is valued for its ease of maintenance and its ability to attract pollinators with its flowers. It is often used in naturalized plantings, wildflower gardens, and as a border plant in semi-shaded areas. While it prefers part shade, it can tolerate a range of light conditions from full sun to light shade. It is adaptable to various soil types, provided they have good drainage, and it has low to medium water requirements. This plant can spread by seed and rhizomes, which should be considered when planting to prevent unwanted spread.CC BY-SA 4.0
