Summary
Aloe microstigma, commonly known as Cape Speckled Aloe, is an evergreen succulent native to the arid and semi-arid regions, particularly rocky slopes and outcrops in the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces of South Africa, as well as southern Namibia. It typically grows to a height of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) and a width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). The plant is characterized by its rosettes of blue-green leaves that are dotted with white spots and edged with small teeth. During late winter to early spring, it produces striking bi-colored flowers on tall spikes, which are red at the base and yellow at the tips, adding a vibrant display to the garden.
Cape Speckled Aloe is valued for its drought tolerance and striking appearance, making it a popular choice for rockeries, succulent gardens, and as a container plant. It is also known for its medicinal properties, particularly the soothing gel within its leaves. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance, thriving in full sun and well-draining soil. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. While generally pest-resistant, it can occasionally suffer from aloe rust, especially in humid conditions. This species is not typically invasive but should be monitored to ensure it does not spread beyond intended areas.CC BY-SA 4.0
