Estimated Native Range
Summary
Androsace maxima, commonly known as Greater Rockjasmine, Large Androsace, Annual Androsace, or Rock Jasmine, is an annual herb. It is native to rocky mountain areas, subalpine meadows, and grassy slopes in Europe, North Africa, and Asia. This plant typically grows to a height of 0.2-0.5 feet (0.06-0.15 meters) and a width of 0.5-1 feet (0.15-0.3 meters). Greater Rockjasmine has a low-growing, rosette-forming habit with lanceolate leaves. Its flowers are white or pink, blooming in the spring and are quite showy, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Greater Rockjasmine is valued for its delicate flowers and is often used in rock gardens, alpine houses, and as edging or ground cover in garden borders. It is relatively easy to maintain, requiring minimal care once established. The plant prefers full sun to part shade and thrives in sandy or loamy soils with good drainage. It is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping. Regular deadheading can promote a longer blooming period.CC BY-SA 4.0
