Summary

Androsace umbellata, commonly known as Umbrella-leaved Androsace, is a perennial herb native to Pakistan to the Russian Far East. It typically forms low-growing rosettes of spoon-shaped leaves and produces delicate umbels of pink or white flowers in the spring, which are quite showy despite their small size. The plant reaches a height of 2-6 inches (5-15 cm) and spreads 6-12 inches (15-30 cm). The foliage is semi-evergreen, depending on the climate.

Umbrella-leaved Androsace is valued for its ability to thrive in rocky, well-drained soils and its preference for full sun to partial shade. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, alpine troughs, and as a ground cover in well-drained areas. This plant requires minimal maintenance once established, but it does need protection from excessive winter wetness to prevent root rot. It is not known for any significant pest or disease problems. However, it can be sensitive to overwatering and poor drainage.CC BY-SA 4.0
