Summary
Anemone raddeana, commonly known as Snowdrop Anemone or Radde’s Anemone, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb native to moist deciduous woodlands and forest clearings in East Asia, particularly in China, Korea, and Japan. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 1-1.5 feet (0.3-0.5 meters). The plant features deeply lobed leaves and produces clusters of white, cup-shaped flowers with yellow centers that bloom in early to mid-spring, offering a showy display. The flowers are followed by fluffy seed heads that also provide ornamental interest.
Snowdrop Anemone is valued for its early spring blooms and can naturalize to form attractive colonies under the right conditions. It is often used in woodland gardens, shaded borders, and as ground cover. While it prefers medium moisture, it is somewhat drought-tolerant once established. It thrives in full sun to part shade and adapts to a range of soil types, including clay or loam with medium drainage. Gardeners should be aware that Anemone raddeana can spread aggressively by rhizomes and may require control measures to prevent it from overtaking other plantings. It is generally pest-free but can be susceptible to leaf spot and powdery mildew in humid conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
