Estimated Native Range
Summary
Antennaria neglecta, commonly known as Field Pussytoes, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb native to a variety of habitats including prairies, open woodlands, and dry fields in the Central and Eastern USA and Canada. It typically grows to a height of 1 foot (0.3 meters) and spreads 0.5-1 foot (0.2-0.3 meters). This plant forms low, dense mats of gray-green foliage and is known for its fuzzy, white flower clusters that resemble cats’ toes, which appear in the spring and are modest in showiness.
Field Pussytoes are valued for their drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor, rocky soils, making them an excellent choice for rock gardens, border fronts, and naturalized areas. They are also used as ground cover and are beneficial for attracting butterflies. In cultivation, they require minimal maintenance, preferring full sun to part shade and well-drained soils. While generally pest-free, they can occasionally suffer from root rot if overwatered. Field Pussytoes are not aggressive and do not pose problems with invasiveness or aggressive roots.CC BY-SA 4.0
