Estimated Native Range
Summary
Antennaria rosea, commonly known as Rosy Pussytoes, is a perennial herb that is evergreen and native to a variety of habitats including open woodlands, alpine areas, dry meadows, and rocky slopes in North America, particularly in the United States and Canada. It typically grows to a height of 0.4-0.5 feet and can spread to about 0.8-1 feet. The plant forms low, dense mats of gray-green foliage and produces clusters of small, fluffy, pink to white flowers in the summer and fall, which are quite showy and attract pollinators.
Rosy Pussytoes is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor soils, making it an excellent ground cover for rock gardens, borders, and xeriscaping. It’s also used in ecological plantings to support native pollinators. This plant prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade, and it requires well-drained soil. While it is adaptable to various soil types, it does best with medium to fast drainage and only needs moderate watering once established. It is generally low maintenance, but it can spread through rhizomes and self-seeding, potentially becoming aggressive in ideal conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
