Estimated Native Range
Summary
Arabidopsis thaliana, commonly known as Thale Cress is a perennial shrub native to most of Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. It typically grows to a height of 5-13 feet (1.5-4 meters) and has an erect or spreading habit. The bark is greyish, smooth or finely fissured, and the plant features linear phyllodes instead of true leaves. White Wattle blooms from July to October, producing pale yellow to white flowers that are arranged in spherical heads, offering a subtle ornamental quality.
White Wattle is valued for its hardiness and ability to adapt to a range of soil types, including those with poor fertility. It is often used for revegetation projects, as a screen or hedge, and in native plant gardens. This species prefers full sun to part shade and requires well-drained soils. It is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping. While it is not known for major diseases, it can be subject to root rot in poorly drained soils. In cultivation, it is important to be aware of its potential invasiveness when grown outside its native range, and gardeners should check local regulations before planting.CC BY-SA 4.0
