Summary

Armeria alliacea, commonly known as Sea Pink or Thrift, is an evergreen perennial herb native to coastal areas in Western Europe, including Spain. It typically grows to a height of 0.5 feet (0.2 meters) and a width of 1 foot (0.3 meters). This compact plant forms tufts of grass-like, dark green leaves and bears globular clusters of pink or occasionally white flowers atop long, leafless stalks. The flowering season extends from spring to fall, with peak bloom in late spring to early summer. The flowers are quite showy and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Sea Pink is valued for its tolerance of salty conditions and is often used in rock gardens, as edging, or in coastal plantings where its ability to withstand maritime exposure is beneficial. It thrives in full sun or part shade and prefers well-drained soils. Overwatering or poor drainage can lead to root rot, so care should be taken to avoid these conditions. Sea Pink is also appreciated for its low maintenance requirements and its use in cut flower arrangements. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from rust or leaf spot.CC BY-SA 4.0
