Armeria mauritanica, commonly known as Thrift, False Sea Thrift, or Spanish Thrift, is a perennial herb native to coastal cliffs, dunes, and sandy soils of Portugal and Spain. It has a moderate growth rate, reaching heights of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) and a similar spread of 1-1.5 feet (0.3-0.5 meters). This plant forms dense, mounded tufts of grass-like, evergreen foliage. The flowers are globular, bright pink to purple clusters atop long, leafless stems, blooming profusely in spring and continuing into summer, adding a splash of color to the garden.

Thrift is valued for its low maintenance, tolerance of poor soils, and resistance to drought once established, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, edging, or as a ground cover in coastal gardens. It is also used in alpine and gravel gardens. Thrift thrives in full sun and requires well-drained sandy or loamy soil.
