Estimated Native Range
Summary
Armeria splendens, commonly known as Sea Pink or Thrift, is an evergreen perennial herb native to coastal cliffs and sandy beaches of Spain. It forms compact tufts reaching a height of 0.3-1 feet (0.09-0.3 meters) and a width of up to 0.5 feet (0.2 meters). The plant is characterized by its grass-like, dark green leaves and round clusters of bright pink flowers that bloom atop long, leafless stems in late spring to early summer, providing a showy display. The flowers are highly attractive to butterflies and bees.
Sea Pink is valued for its low maintenance, drought tolerance, and ability to thrive in poor soils, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, coastal gardens, and green roofs. It is also used as an edging plant or ground cover. In cultivation, it requires full sun exposure and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. Overwatering or heavy clay soils can lead to root rot. Sea Pink is relatively pest and disease-free but can suffer from rust if grown in conditions that are too wet.CC BY-SA 4.0
