Estimated Native Range
Summary
Bahiopsis parishii, commonly known as Parish’s Goldeneye, is an evergreen shrub or subshrub native to the desert scrub and chaparral ecosystems of the Southwestern United States and Northwest Mexico. It typically grows to about 2 feet tall and is characterized by its bright yellow, daisy-like flowers. Parish’s Goldeneye is often found in association with creosote bush and other desert flora, ranging from sea level to 5,000 ft (1,500 m) in elevation. It has an adaptive blooming pattern, flowering after periods of rain in both spring and fall, as well as after the monsoon season in Arizona.
Parish’s Goldeneye is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant yellow blooms, which can add a splash of color to xeriscaped gardens, rock gardens, and desert landscapes. It is a low-maintenance plant that attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing biodiversity. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun to part shade and is adaptable to a range of soil drainage conditions, from fast to slow. While it prefers low to medium water, it is capable of surviving extended dry periods. Gardeners should be aware that Bahiopsis parishii may not tolerate excessive moisture or cold temperatures.CC BY-SA 4.0
