Bergia capensis, commonly known as Bergia, is a perennial herb native to Africa, India, Iran and into China. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 0.1-0.3 feet (0.03-0.1 meters), forming a low, spreading mat. The plant features small, delicate white flowers that bloom in the summer, adding a subtle charm to water gardens and moist landscapes. The foliage is green and lush, contributing to its attractiveness even when not in flower.

Bergia is valued for its ability to thrive in wet conditions and is often used in water gardens, as a ground cover in moist areas, or for erosion control along waterways. It is relatively easy to maintain, requiring consistent moisture to perform well. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to part shade and can adapt to a variety of soil types, including clay or loam, as long as they offer medium to fast drainage. While it requires medium to high amounts of water, it is not tolerant of drought.
