Summary
Berlandiera pumila, commonly known as Soft Greeneyes, is a perennial herb native to the southeastern and south-central United States, specifically thriving in open pine woodlands, sandy fields, and along roadsides. It is found in states such as Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Soft Greeneyes typically grows up to 40 inches tall and features a branching habit with attractive foliage. The plant is known for its charming yellow ray florets and maroon disc florets that bloom from late spring to early fall, providing a long season of interest with their showy flowers.
Soft Greeneyes is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor, sandy soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalistic plantings. Its flowers attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, enhancing the biodiversity of garden spaces. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to partial shade and requires well-drained soil. While generally low-maintenance, it can benefit from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Soft Greeneyes is not commonly associated with serious disease or pest problems, making it a resilient addition to the garden.CC BY-SA 4.0
