Estimated Native Range
Summary
Beschorneria albiflora, commonly known as White-Flowered Mexican Lily, is an evergreen succulent native to the oak and pine forests of Central America and Mexico, particularly thriving in semi-arid highlands. It typically grows to a height of 2-6 feet (0.6-1.8 meters) and a width of 6-8 feet (1.8-2.4 meters). This plant forms a rosette of long, slender, gray-green leaves and sends up a tall flower spike with tubular white flowers, often tinged with red or green, in the late winter to spring. The flowers are somewhat showy and attract hummingbirds and other pollinators.
White-Flowered Mexican Lily is appreciated for its architectural form and the contrast it provides in rock gardens, xeriscapes, and as a focal point in succulent collections. It is drought-tolerant, requiring very little maintenance once established. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to part shade and well-draining soil. While it tolerates a range of soil types, it thrives in those with medium to fast drainage. It is not commonly affected by diseases but can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered. This plant is not typically invasive and does not have aggressive roots, making it a safe choice for most garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
