Estimated Native Range
Summary
Calceolaria integrifolia, commonly known as bush slipperwort, is an evergreen subshrub native to the temperate forests and mountainous regions of Argentina and Chile. It can reach up to 6 feet in height and is characterized by its sticky, highly veined leaves and unique pouch-like, lemon-yellow flowers that bloom in clusters during spring and summer, adding a splash of color to the garden. The flowers are particularly showy and attract pollinators such as bees.
Bush slipperwort has been recognized with the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, indicating its value in ornamental horticulture. It is well-suited for border planting, urban gardens, and as a specimen plant in sheltered locations. While it prefers a frost-free position, it can tolerate light frosts if given protection. For optimal growth, it requires well-drained soil, regular watering, and a position in full sun to partial shade. It is not known for being invasive but can be susceptible to aphids and slugs. In regions with harsh winters, it may be grown in containers and brought indoors to overwinter.CC BY-SA 4.0
