Calliandra tergemina, commonly known as Fairy Duster, is a semi-deciduous shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions of Mexico, Central and South America, including open woodlands and forest edges. It typically grows to a height of 3-6 feet (0.9-1.8 meters) and a similar width. Fairy Duster has a bushy form with bipinnate leaves and produces showy, fluffy, pink to red flowers that resemble small pom-poms, blooming primarily in the spring and intermittently throughout the year.

Fairy Duster is valued for its vibrant flowers, which attract pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for wildlife gardens. It is used in cultivation for ornamental purposes in borders, as a specimen plant, or for informal hedges. This shrub thrives in full sun to partial shade, requires well-drained soil, and is drought-tolerant once established. While it prefers regular watering, overwatering should be avoided. It is not known for having aggressive roots or significant disease problems, but it can be sensitive to frost.
