Camissoniopsis bistorta, commonly known as Southern Suncup or California Suncup, is an annual or short-lived perennial herb native to coastal sage scrub and chaparral habitats of Southern California and Baja California. It typically forms a basal rosette from which stems spread, reaching heights of up to 12 inches (30 cm). The plant is known for its bright yellow flowers adorned with red spots, which bloom from March to May, adding a splash of color to the landscape. The flowers are moderately showy and attract pollinators such as bees.

Southern Suncup is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in challenging environments, making it a suitable choice for xeriscaping and restoration projects. It is often used in wildflower mixes and can be found in naturalistic plantings, where its ability to self-seed is advantageous. This species prefers full sun exposure and can tolerate a range of soil types, from sandy to clay, provided they have good drainage. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered.
