Estimated Native Range
Summary
Campanula aparinoides, commonly known as Marsh Bellflower, is a deciduous perennial herb native to wet meadows, fens, swamps, and marshy woodlands in the Central and Eastern USA, as well as the Southeast. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-3 feet (0.2-0.9 meters) and a width of 0.5-2 feet (0.2-0.6 meters). The plant features delicate stems and lance-shaped leaves, with clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers that bloom in the spring and are moderately showy. The flowers provide a soft visual appeal in naturalistic garden settings.
Marsh Bellflower thrives in moist to wet conditions and is often used in rain gardens, water margins, and other areas that mimic its natural wetland habitat. It is valued for its ability to adapt to wet soils and for providing early-season blooms. While it prefers part shade or full shade, it can tolerate some sun if the soil remains consistently moist. It is not drought-tolerant and requires soils with slow to medium drainage. Gardeners should be aware that in ideal conditions, it can spread vigorously, potentially becoming aggressive in some settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
