Estimated Native Range
Summary
Carlowrightia arizonica, commonly known as Arizona Wrightwort, is a semi-deciduous subshrub or shrub native to the desert scrub and rocky slopes of the Southwestern USA, Mexico, as well as parts of Central America. It typically grows to a height and width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters), forming a compact and rounded shape. The plant is characterized by its small, lanceolate leaves and produces delicate flowers that are white with purple accents, blooming profusely in the spring and continuing into the summer. The flowers, while not overly showy, add a subtle charm to the plant’s appearance.
Arizona Wrightwort is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in hot, arid environments, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and desert gardens. It is also used in rock gardens and as a low-maintenance ground cover in suitable climates. This plant prefers full sun to partial shade and requires well-drained soil. It is relatively low-maintenance, needing only occasional watering once established. While it is not prone to many diseases, it can suffer from root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
