This species is part of the Fabaceae family and thrives in tropical and subtropical climates. It can reach a height of 20 to 25 feet (6 to 7.5 meters) with a spread of 20 feet (6 meters). The Gold Medallion Tree is notable for its bright yellow, showy flowers that bloom in large clusters, primarily in the summer, although it can flower intermittently throughout the year. The flowers are followed by distinctive, rectangular cross-section seedpods that make a rattling sound when dry. The foliage consists of glossy green, pinnate leaflets that provide a delicate, fern-like appearance.

The Gold Medallion Tree is valued for its ornamental flowers and moderate size, making it suitable for urban landscapes, small gardens, and as a street tree. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring minimal pruning and care once established. The tree is drought-tolerant, although it benefits from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods. It prefers well-drained soils and is adaptable to a range of soil types, from sandy to loamy. While it is generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils.
