Summary
Cenostigma pluviosum, commonly known as Cassia-do-campo or Caneleiro, is a deciduous tree native to the cerrado and caatinga biomes of Brazil, as well as regions in Guyana and Venezuela. It thrives in open woodland areas and scrublands. This species exhibits a moderate growth rate and typically reaches a height of 15-25 feet (4.6-8 meters) with a spread of 10-15 feet (3-4.6 meters). Its form is upright with a rounded canopy, and it produces yellow, showy flowers during the summer months, which are particularly attractive to pollinators.
Cenostigma pluviosum is valued for its ornamental features, including the bright yellow flowers that create a striking display against the green foliage. It is used in urban landscaping, as a street tree, and in gardens for its drought tolerance and adaptability to various soil types. While it prefers full sun, it can also tolerate light shade. It is best grown in medium draining loam or clay soils and requires medium amounts of water once established. This species is relatively low-maintenance, but gardeners should be aware of potential pests such as aphids and fungal diseases that may affect the plant.CC BY-SA 4.0
