Estimated Native Range
Summary
Cissus antarctica, commonly known as Kangaroo Vine, is an evergreen climbing vine native to the moist forest margins and rainforest understories of New South Wales and Queensland, Australia. It can grow vigorously, reaching lengths of up to several meters. The plant features glossy, green leaves and tendrils that allow it to climb surfaces or trail attractively in hanging baskets. While it does not produce notable flowers, its dense foliage provides a lush, tropical feel to gardens and indoor spaces.
Kangaroo Vine is valued for its ability to thrive in a range of indoor conditions, including low light, making it an excellent choice for houseplant enthusiasts. It is also used in subtropical climates for outdoor cultivation as a ground cover or for covering walls and fences, adding greenery to urban environments. In cultivation, it prefers a humid environment and does not tolerate temperatures above 15 °C well, especially with central heating. It requires consistently moist soil but should not be waterlogged. For optimal growth, it should be placed in full sun to part shade and planted in well-draining soil.CC BY-SA 4.0
