Summary
Clematicissus simsiana, commonly known as Clematicissus or Armand’s Clematis, is a deciduous perennial vine native to the montane regions of South America. It can grow up to 18 feet (5 meters) in height and spreads to about 0.5 feet (0.2 meters) wide. This vigorous climber features leathery, dark green leaves and bears clusters of fragrant, star-shaped white flowers in the spring, which can be quite showy. The plant is not known for significant fall color change or notable fruit.
Armand’s Clematis is valued for its rapid growth and fragrant flowers, making it an excellent choice for trellises, arbors, and fences in gardens. It is also used to cover unsightly structures or to provide quick privacy. This vine prefers a sheltered location with well-drained soil and can tolerate some drought once established. It thrives in full sun to part shade conditions. While generally easy to maintain, it can suffer from clematis wilt or powdery mildew and may require pruning to control its size and promote healthy growth.CC BY-SA 4.0
