Estimated Native Range
Summary
Collomia linearis, commonly known as Tiny Trumpet or Slenderleaf Collomia, is an annual herb native to a variety of habitats in North America, including montane zones, meadows, and open woodlands, particularly in the western and northern regions. It is a modest plant, rarely exceeding 12 inches in height, with a velvety erect stem and long, narrow green leaves. The plant is characterized by its clusters of up to 20 white or light pink flowers, each about a centimeter across, with five rounded petals and white pollen-tipped stamens that bloom in late spring to early summer. The flowers are modest but can be quite showy when in large numbers.
Tiny Trumpet is valued for its ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a beneficial addition to pollinator gardens and naturalized areas. It is often used in wildflower mixes and can be found in rock gardens due to its low stature and preference for well-drained soils. In cultivation, it requires full sun and well-drained soil, and it is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal water once established. While it is not commonly known for any popular garden cultivars, its natural form is well-suited for informal settings. Potential problems include susceptibility to powdery mildew in humid conditions. It is not known to be invasive and does not have aggressive roots, making it a safe choice for most garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
