Summary
Conoclinium dissectum, commonly known as Palmleaf Thoroughwort, is a deciduous perennial herb native to moist prairies, stream banks, and marshy areas in Northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States. It typically grows to a height and width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). Palmleaf Thoroughwort has a bushy form with deeply lobed leaves that resemble palm leaves, and it produces clusters of small, fluffy purple and blue flowers from late summer into fall, which are highly attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.
This plant is valued for its long blooming period and its ability to attract wildlife, making it a popular choice for butterfly gardens, naturalized areas, and as a border plant in cultivation. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring medium amounts of water and thriving in soils with medium to fast drainage. Palmleaf Thoroughwort prefers full sun to part shade and is tolerant of hot, humid summers. While it has no major disease problems, it can occasionally suffer from root rot in overly wet conditions. It is not known to be invasive and does not have aggressive roots, making it a safe choice for a variety of garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
