Estimated Native Range
Summary
Coreopsis pubescens, commonly known as Star Tickseed, is a deciduous perennial herb native to open woodlands, pine barrens, and savannas in the Southeastern USA, particularly thriving in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. Star Tickseed typically reaches a height of 2-4 feet (0.6-1.2 meters) and a width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters). Its appearance is characterized by its daisy-like flowers with bright yellow rays and darker orange centers, blooming profusely from late summer to fall, adding a splash of color to the garden when many other plants are starting to fade.
Star Tickseed is valued for its long blooming season and its ability to attract butterflies and other pollinators. It is often used in wildflower gardens, as a border plant, or in naturalized areas. This plant is adaptable to a range of soil types, provided they are well-drained, and it is drought-tolerant once established, making it a low-maintenance option for gardeners. While it prefers full sun, it can tolerate light shade. It’s also a good choice for erosion control due to its clumping habit. However, it can be susceptible to powdery mildew and should be spaced properly to ensure good air circulation.CC BY-SA 4.0
