The tree is noted for its layered branching structure and striking appearance, with large, white, showy flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. These blooms are followed by strawberry-like fruits, which are visually appealing and can attract birds. The foliage turns a vibrant red to purple in the fall, adding seasonal interest.

Chinese Dogwood is valued for its ornamental flowers, attractive fruit, and bright fall foliage. It is used in cultivation for residential landscaping, as a specimen tree, and occasionally for naturalizing in gardens. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils, including clay, loam, or sandy types. While it is adaptable to various soil conditions, it does require medium amounts of water. Gardeners should be aware that this species can be susceptible to dogwood anthracnose and powdery mildew, especially in humid climates.
