Estimated Native Range
Summary
Corydalis elata, commonly known as Blue Fumewort, is a deciduous perennial herb native to the forest margins and stream banks in South-Central China. This plant typically grows to a height and width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters), forming clumps of deeply divided, fern-like green foliage. The Blue Fumewort is particularly noted for its striking, tubular blue flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer, offering a showy display that can add a splash of color to shady garden spots.
Blue Fumewort is valued for its vibrant blue flowers and its ability to thrive in shady conditions, making it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and as an underplanting for taller shrubs or trees. It prefers consistently moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and benefits from a layer of mulch to maintain soil moisture. While it does best in part shade, it can tolerate morning sun if kept sufficiently moist. Blue Fumewort is not commonly afflicted by diseases or pests, but it can suffer from root rot if planted in poorly drained soils. It is also relatively low maintenance, requiring minimal care once established.CC BY-SA 4.0
