Summary
Corydalis shimienensis, commonly known as Fumewort, is a perennial herb that can be semi-evergreen or deciduous depending on the climate. It is native to the forest margins and rocky slopes in South-Central China. This plant typically grows to a height of 0.9-1 feet (0.3-0.3 meters) and spreads 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters), forming clumps of finely divided, fern-like foliage. Corydalis shimienensis produces racemes of tubular green and yellow flowers which are subtly showy from late summer into fall, adding a splash of color to the garden when many other plants have finished blooming.
Fumewort is valued for its delicate foliage and late-season flowers, which can enliven shady areas of the garden. It is often used in woodland gardens, shade gardens, and as underplanting for larger shrubs. This plant prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It thrives in part shade to full shade and requires medium amounts of water. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to slug and snail damage. Fumewort is not known for aggressive roots or significant disease problems. It is not typically invasive when grown outside its native range, but gardeners should always monitor plants for unexpected spread.CC BY-SA 4.0
