Corydalis yanhusuo, commonly known as Yanhusuo, is a perennial herb that is native to the high-altitude grasslands of China, but also to the lower altitude open woodlands and forest edges. It typically grows to a height of 12-15 inches (30-38 centimeters). The plant features delicate, fern-like foliage and produces clusters of striking purple-blue tubular flowers from late spring to early summer. The flowers are showy and can add a splash of color to garden settings. The yellow round tubers are notable not only for their use in traditional Chinese medicine but also for their interesting shape and color.

Yanhusuo is valued for its medicinal properties, particularly for pain relief, as it contains several alkaloids such as tetrahydropalmatine. It is often grown in herb gardens, medicinal gardens, and as a part of mixed borders for its attractive flowers and foliage. In cultivation, it prefers partial shade to full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate watering, mimicking its native habitat conditions. While it is not commonly known for being problematic, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.
