Summary
Crassula sarmentosa, commonly known as Showy Trailing Jade Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to the rocky slopes and forest margins of the Western and Southern Cape Provinces of South Africa. It typically grows to a height of 1 foot (0.3 meters) and spreads 3-5 feet (0.9-1.5 meters) wide. The plant forms a mat-like structure with fleshy, bright green leaves and woody stems that can trail attractively over the edges of containers or hanging baskets. It produces clusters of small, star-shaped pink and white flowers that are particularly showy in the spring and winter months.
The Showy Trailing Jade Plant is valued for its drought tolerance and ease of maintenance, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens, rockeries, and as a ground cover. It is also popular in container plantings and indoor settings where bright light is available. While it thrives in full sun to part shade, it requires very little water once established and prefers well-draining soil to prevent root rot. It is not known for any significant disease problems, but overwatering can lead to issues. This plant is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.CC BY-SA 4.0
