Estimated Native Range
Summary
Crinodendron patagua, commonly known as Lily-Of-The-Valley Tree, is an evergreen tree native to the central Chilean sclerophyllous forests, where it thrives in well-drained soils along stream banks and in ravines. It typically grows to a height and width of 18-24 feet (5.5-7.3 meters), forming a dense, rounded canopy. The tree is notable for its glossy, dark green leaves and its profusion of bell-shaped white to cream flowers that bloom in the summer and fall, attracting pollinators and providing a showy display.
The Lily-Of-The-Valley Tree is valued for its ornamental flowers and evergreen foliage, making it a suitable choice for residential gardens, urban landscapes, and as a specimen tree. It requires consistent moisture, especially during the dry season, and prefers a sheltered position to protect it from strong winds. While it can tolerate a range of soil types, it performs best in acidic to neutral soils with good drainage. This species is not commonly associated with serious pests or diseases, but it can suffer from root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. It is not known to be invasive outside its native range.CC BY-SA 4.0
