Estimated Native Range
Summary
Crinum erubescens, commonly known as Swamp Lily, River Lily, or Pink Swamp Lily, is a perennial bulb native to Mexico and tropical America. It exhibits a moderate growth rate and typically reaches a height of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) with a similar spread of 3-5 feet (0.9-1.5 meters). The Swamp Lily is characterized by its strap-like green leaves and clusters of fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers, which can be pink or white and are quite showy when they bloom in the summer. The flowers are borne on tall stalks and are attractive to various pollinators.
Swamp Lily is valued for its ornamental flowers and ability to thrive in moist conditions, making it suitable for water gardens, rain gardens, and as a naturalizing plant along ponds or streams. It is also used in mixed borders for its lush foliage and striking blooms. This plant prefers full sun to part shade and grows best in loam or clay soils with medium to slow drainage. While it requires medium amounts of water, it can tolerate periods of flooding. Swamp Lily is generally low-maintenance but can be susceptible to mealybugs and spider mites. It is important to note that all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so caution should be exercised in gardens with children or pets.CC BY-SA 4.0
