Summary
Dalea pringlei, commonly known as Pringle’s Prairie Clover, is a deciduous perennial subshrub or herb native to arid grasslands, desert scrub, and riparian zones in the Southwestern United States and Northwest Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-2 feet (0.15-0.6 meters) and a width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). The plant has a compact form with fine-textured foliage and produces vibrant purple flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators. The flowering season extends through spring, summer, and fall, offering a long period of visual interest.
Pringle’s Prairie Clover is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in challenging environments, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalistic plantings. It is also used in restoration projects to stabilize soils and support native pollinators. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to part shade and requires well-drained soils. While it is adaptable to various soil types, it performs best in soils with medium to fast drainage and low water requirements. This species is not commonly affected by diseases or pests, but overwatering can lead to root rot.CC BY-SA 4.0
