Summary
Dampiera stricta, commonly known as Blue Dampiera, is an evergreen subshrub native to open woodlands and forest margins in Eastern Australia. This plant typically reaches a height of up to 90 cm (35 in) and features ribbed, triangular stems that are smooth or become smooth with age. The leaves of Dampiera stricta are variable in shape, contributing to its unique appearance. It produces vibrant blue, mauve, or purple flowers that are quite showy, blooming predominantly from August to January. The fruit is a distinctive rounded oblong shape, measuring 4–5 mm (0.16–0.20 in) long, ribbed, and covered in rusty-colored hairs.
Blue Dampiera is valued for its striking flowers and ability to attract pollinators, making it a popular choice for native gardens, informal borders, and as a ground cover in cultivation. It is relatively easy to maintain, requiring medium amounts of water and thriving in soils with medium drainage. While it prefers full sun or part shade, it is somewhat adaptable to different light conditions. Gardeners should be aware that while it is generally pest-free, it may be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
