Summary

Delosperma dyeri, commonly known as Red Mountain Ice Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, where it thrives in rocky outcrops and slopes. It typically forms low-growing mats reaching 0.2-0.4 feet (0.06-0.1 meters) in height and spreading 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) wide. The plant is characterized by its fleshy, bright green leaves and daisy-like flowers that exhibit vibrant shades of orange and red, blooming profusely from spring to fall and providing a long-lasting display of color.

Red Mountain Ice Plant is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant flowers, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, xeriscaping, and as a ground cover in sunny, dry areas. It is also used in green roofs and for erosion control due to its mat-forming habit. This succulent requires minimal maintenance, thriving in full sun with very low to low water needs and preferring well-drained soils. While generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. It is not known for being invasive and is considered safe for planting in a variety of garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
