Delosperma nubigenum, commonly known as Hardy Ice Plant, is a perennial succulent native to the high mountains of South Africa, specifically the Drakensberg Mountains. It is well-adapted to rocky slopes and cliffs in its native habitat, thriving in well-drained soils. This plant typically forms a dense mat up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall and can spread 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) wide. The Hardy Ice Plant has fleshy, bright green leaves that help retain moisture, and it produces vibrant yellow daisy-like flowers from late spring to early summer. The flowers are quite showy and attract pollinators.

The Hardy Ice Plant is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping, rock gardens, and green roofs. It is also used as a ground cover to control erosion on slopes. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance, preferring full sun and well-draining soil. While it is drought-tolerant, occasional watering during prolonged dry periods can keep it looking its best.
