Estimated Native Range
Summary
Delphinium glareosum, commonly known as Olympic Larkspur, is a deciduous perennial herb native to alpine meadows and subalpine areas of the Pacific Northwest, particularly in the Olympic Mountains. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) and a width of 0.8-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters). Olympic Larkspur is characterized by its tall, slender stems and deeply lobed leaves, with a cluster of intense blue flowers that bloom in the summer. The flowers are quite showy and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Olympic Larkspur is valued for its vibrant blue flowers and is often used in rock gardens, wildflower meadows, and as a border plant in cooler climates. It requires well-drained soil and thrives in a range of light conditions, from full sun to partial shade, although it prefers cooler temperatures and may require protection from intense afternoon sun in warmer regions. While it is relatively low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to crown rot if grown in poorly drained soils or overly wet conditions. Additionally, all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so care should be taken if planting in areas accessible to pets or children.CC BY-SA 4.0
