Deparia lobatocrenata, commonly known as Deep-Lobed Japanese Sword Fern, is an evergreen fern native to the understory of moist, shaded forests in Japan. It typically reaches a height of 2 feet (0.6 meters) and a width of 0.6 feet (0.2 meters). The fern is characterized by its deeply lobed fronds that create a textured and lush appearance. The fronds are bright green and can add a delicate, feathery texture to shaded garden areas. Flowering is not applicable to ferns, as they reproduce via spores located on the undersides of the fronds.

Deep-Lobed Japanese Sword Fern is valued for its hardiness and the dense, verdant ground cover it provides in shaded garden spots. It is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and as an underplanting for larger shrubs or trees. This fern thrives in humus-rich, well-drained soil and prefers consistent moisture without waterlogging. It is relatively low maintenance but may require additional water during dry spells. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from rust or fungal spots if conditions are too damp.
